Haiti - Direct Relief International & Red Star Restaurants

Dear Lauren and Al,

I wanted to send you a brief update today to let you know that another Direct Relief International shipment departed for Haiti this afternoon. This 40,000 pound shipment of essential and critically needed medical supplies and medications filled a 53-ft truck and is valued at $16.5 million wholesale (please note we may not publicize value in the future to avoid potential security issues). These goods will be utilized by our key partners on the ground, and in this case, primarily Partners in Health, to help address the serious and mounting health needs of the people of Haiti.

Our first team returned to the office on Monday to regroup and strategize next steps. A second team is departing for Haiti tomorrow with a focus on logistics, warehousing, and if time permits, identification of new partners.

While the news of medical supply shortages in Haiti are distressing, Direct Relief is extremely privileged to have the capacity to deliver appropriate resources into the hands of trusted, competent providers on the ground – and we could not do so with the precision, volume, and security that is necessary in this complex situation if it were not for FedEx, our transportation donor. Furthermore, Direct Relief could not undertake the multitude of activities required now and for months to come to ensure the people of Haiti recover from this devastating crisis without the generous support of people like you – and companies like Red Star Restaurants and Rumble Art.

For the salsa dancer, the art lover, and everyone in between, a night of unforgettable "rhythm and flavor" comes to Rumble Art. Mezcal Martini will entice your feet with Latin sounds, and Milk & Honey and Julienne restaurants will entice your palate with scrumptious appetizers. Our gracious bar sponsors are Tantara Winery, Carr Winery, and RND Vodka. This night of passionate fun also has a serious intent: raising money for Haiti earthquake victims in partnership with Direct Relief.

*Proceeds from "Ritmo y Sabor" ticket sales will go to DIRECT RELIEF INTERNATIONAL for Haitian disaster relief.*
